On Thurday, November 12, 2009, at CSUCI’s John Spoor Broome Library, CI’s art department hosted its first all-student sculpture show entitled, “Acts of Sculpture.” The event, organized by CI student, Raul Valdez, was a smashing success with a high turnout of CI students, CI professors, and art enthusiasts.

Many artists in our community have talent, but the newest exhibit RATED “R” FOR REALISM by Christophe Bourély has that exceptional spark of the unique and powerful. In this collection of recent works Bourély utilizes painting techniques of both photo-realism and classic impressionism in a striking commentary of humanity.

It is said that those that can’t, teach, but that was not the case on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at Channel Islands’ Annual Faculty Show in CSUCI’s John Spoor Broome Library. Each professor of CI’s art department was extended the opportunity to show off their amazing and unique talents with a single piece from their portfolios. A variety of tastes and styles were represented in the show ranging from abstract painting by Art Department Chair, Jack Reilly to costume design by Lecturer of Art, Rachel Myers.

On Thursday, October 8, 2009, Channel Islands Chairman and Professor of Art, Jack Reilly, premiered his 3.5 Decades of Art show at the CSUCI Exhibitions Gallery in Camarillo. The show displayed pieces of Reilly’s work from the early 1970s to present, and was a fascinating display of how Reilly’s craft and taste have evolved and changed over the years.

Review: “The Art of Community”

On Thursday September 24, eager art enthusiasts and curious CI students and faculty attended the closing reception for the “The Art of Community”, an expansive exhibit of photographs at CSUCI’s John Spoor Broome Library. The very thorough show covering several floors of the library consisted of a selection of more than fifty portraits of Ventura county artists taken by celebrated photographer Donna Granata.
