Today, while riding my bike on University Drive getting ready to make a right on Lewis Road I was cut off by a driver with the same intentions of turning. The abrupt decrease in stopping distance caused me to tactfully dodge to the right where there should have been no road hazards. On the contrary, the road was littered with pot holes, rocks, and small stones.

Earthquake in Haiti Brings out the Worst

n times of tragedy you tend to see the true nature of people. When the 7.0 magnitude earthquake decimated Haiti the global spotlight was placed on them.

How to Fix Student Parking: A Guide for Administrators

How to Fix Student Parking: A Guide for Administrators

Several easily implemented changes could improve parking for students who live on campus. They cost almost nothing to implement, and will result in a more logical arrangement for everyone.

Eliminate or reduce the added maintenance marking spots in SH1. I’ve never actually seen a maintenance cart parked in one. Most of the time, they just park on the street, which doesn’t pose a problem.

Furlough Layoffs

Furlough Layoffs

We all hear that Furloughs affect us as students, but what about our professors? This semester, the professors took a ten percent pay decrease (to an already low salary) so that the university wouldn’t cut teachers this semester.

Opinion: RENT

Opinion: RENT

One of my main and consistent loves throughout the years is RENT. For those of you poor souls who haven’t heard about it, it is another interpretation of Puccini’s La Boheme. Except it’s a rock musical instead of an opera.

Hello my fellow C.I. Constituants. I hope the increasingly cold days of Camarillo (and then freakishly hot. Seriously Nature needs to make up her mind!) are treating you well. I’d like to encourage everyone to go to Student Government’s town hall meetings. If you really want to learn what’s happening about your education and you want to get angry and do something about it (which you should.) This is the place to do it.

The Prius is a Bad Choice…For Now

The Prius is a Bad Choice…For Now

Over the years, many people have come to me and asked what sort of car they should buy. Worryingly, many of them think buying a Prius is a good idea. I think it’s time to set the record straight.
The Prius’ main selling point is fuel savings, so I’ll destroy it first. A brand-new Prius sells for around $24,000, and returns around 50 miles per gallon.

Letter to the Editor RE: How CSUCI Views September 11th

As a member of the University’s Block Party Committee, I was intrigued by the recent opinion piece on CI’s view of September 11. I was even more interested and actually surprised by the amount of comments about the Block Party in response to the article.

First, I want to apologize on behalf of the Block Party Committee to anyone that was offended by the Red, White and Block Party. The committee had no intention of disrespect in the planning and facilitation of the event. In fact, our intent was actually to pay tribute to victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks. At our last meeting, we came up with some things we thought you should know about the event and our intensions for holding the event.

Hey CI! How’s everyone doing? It’s been an interesting year so far, furloughed classes, constantly changing construction, and the Islands Café…going green?
