This weeks artist highlight, put the spotlight on Rodrigo Garcia, second year, art major. He got into art during the pandemic and has continued to stick with it ever since.
For Garcia his inspiration comes from, “video games, books, shows, all that stuff … even like, my dreams, I get inspirations”. Garcia began indulging himself more in art when he got a new touchscreen laptop. “I’ve always been the creative type,” said Garcia. He started drawing digitally with a focus on cartoons, inspiration from the internet, and his own childhood nostalgia. While nostalgia plays a big role in what he creates, he also wants his viewers to feel that same nostalgic feeling when looking at his art.
In the future, Garcia hopes to have a job in animation, whether that will be working under Warner Bros., Disney, or even Netflix. He then expressed his passion for art and animation by saying, “I feel like I want to do a little bit of everything. That’s how I’ve always told myself, I think I should do a little bit of everything.”
