This week’s feature highlights the ceramic artwork of Ryeanne Benson, a senior studio arts major. Encouraged by her family, Benson started art at a young age. She said art has always been part of her life. Benson finds inspiration in community artists and everyday life. “They show me that it is possible to make a living being a creator,” she said.
Benson uses a variety of mediums in her work. “I use paints, pastel, charcoal, or pens; but my favorite medium is ceramics,” she said.
Aside from the usual mediums Benson uses, she also enjoys working with jewelry and other materials like wood and fabric.
Currently, Benson has spent most of her time this semester in the ceramics studio learning how to fire the gas, electric and raku kilns. “It’s pretty fun,” she said.
For the future, Benson says, “I’d really like to stay in the ceramic world to continue to learn what the medium has to offer and to encourage others to always give art or a different concept a try.”
