This week’s artist highlight puts the spotlight on Lauren Hicks, who is in her last year in the nursing program here at CI. Hicks says she has been making jewelry for quite a while now. She talked about how she enjoys cutting up and using different beads and stones she finds while thrifting. “I mainly make silver jewelry, since that’s mostly what I wear, but I also make gold jewelry. I match a lot of my earrings to my outfits.” Hicks mentioned. She finds herself using many earth tones in her jewelry and said, “When I first started making jewelry, I mainly did it for my friends, and then they convinced me to sell, which I did!” When further asked about selling her jewelry, she mentioned that she used to sell her artwork on Instagram; however, her small business has unfortunately come to a halt due to the hassle of mailing orders and juggling her busy schedule. Hicks said she was open to selling again and would love to start selling her products to students here on campus. When asked what she wants to do with her small business in the future, she expressed the desire to sell her jewelry in a boutique.
