This week’s artist highlight puts the spotlight on Miranda Griffith, third year Studio Arts major. Griffith says she expresses her artistic side through painting and music. When asked how she got into art, Griffith mentioned that she has been creating art for a while, starting in middle school, saying, “I always doodled in my notebooks.” She talked about how much art had piqued her interest, “There was nothing in any other subjects that made me feel like I could see myself doing this for a long time.” Griffith also has plans for her art career for the future; she said she would like to learn more about painting, Photoshop, editing, and digital art to expand her knowledge of art.
Another one of Griffith’s artistic hobbies is music, which she has been dabbling in since middle school as well. She started off playing the viola and also mentioned that her dad played a huge role in broadening her musical horizon. Griffith described her dad as a big music fan, who shared his music taste of ‘80s alternative music with her. “I always liked my dad’s style of music like The Cure, The Smiths, and Depeche Mode and three years ago he started playing the drums and encouraged me to play the drums,” she said. Later down the road, Griffith also mentioned a little less than a year ago she picked up the guitar, stating that she always wanted to play it. “In the future, I want to hopefully learn to produce music, how to play electronic music, how to DJ, and make my own music,” she said.
Griffith also mentioned how much CI’s Art Program has affected her positively. “The Art Department is a really great community on campus, I met my core group of friends from a 2D Drawing Composition class in my first year, taught by Dani Kwan.” She says that people should check out the Art Program if they have not already. Lastly, Griffith mentioned that she has also dabbled in photography. She enjoyed doing some travel photography when she took a trip to Florence, Italy, while studying abroad during her 2025 spring semester here at CI.
