This week, we are highlighting the creative work of Ricarhter Ramos, third-year studio arts major. Ramos first discovered art in middle school, where he was surrounded by people who loved art. He has not previously seen himself as the artistic type or even considered a career in the arts. When asked what inspired him to pursue art for himself, he said, “I had a dream one fateful night in November 2020. I picked up a pencil to draw someone I saw in the dream, then created my first original character, Rosa.” Since then, Ramos has expanded on this one dream, continuing to draw Rosa and, over time, introduced other original characters.

While growing and improving on his artistic talents, he mentioned the impact two professors here at CI had on him. “My professors, Dani Kwan and Simon Quiroz inspired me to expand on my ideas with the techniques that they teach me,” Ramos said. He has since then figured out ways to implement these techniques and incorporate them into his work. His favorite mediums to work in are digital art and graphite; however, more recently, he has begun to explore photography. “Ever since I took Simon’s photography class, I fell in love with photography. Currently, I’m exploring my opportunities to build my portfolio any chance I could get,” he exclaimed.
Lately, Ramos has been working on a short story animation with Quiroz. He also has some other personal projects in the works that he has yet to fully dive into. When asked what he plans to do with his talents in the future, he said he wants to one day create his own television show. “I have wanted to make an animated show ever since 2020, and it has been my drive to keep going,” he mentioned. When it comes to photography, he wants to keep it more of a hobby than a career. He hopes to use photography as a way to build and expand on his artistic skills.
