This week’s artist highlight puts the spotlight on Rayan Syed, fourth year Studio Arts major. Syed mentioned that his art career started when he was very young. He first started by drawing objects around his house and doodling. He said that middle school is when he began to take art a little more seriously, experimenting with watercolors and ceramics. During high school, he said that is when he started to focus on acrylic painting. Now that Syed is in college, he says this is where his main source of art education comes from, and it is also the place where he found his passion for oil painting. Syed has taken a great liking to oil painting, saying, “I love oil painting, it’s my preferred medium.” He said that most of his inspiration comes from Van Gogh, who was the first artist Syed really did research on. Now that Syed is in college, he mentioned that his main sense of inspiration comes from his peers. “I hope to, in the future, curate local galleries with my friends and peers or other local artists,” he says.
