The generational Spider-Man series delves into an adventure-packed story of the dual identity main character, Peter Parker, a regular college student by day and a spider crawling hero at night.
Yes, we have heard it before: ‘Spider-Man” actually started as a mega-popular comic, then became three different film series, each with its own director and actor, each with their own web of the story. Although each of the Spider-Man films follows identical storylines, characters, and plotlines, the inner battles each hero faces are extremely diverse.
Tobey Maguire’s “Spider Man” faced the obstacles of inner conflict between living a regular life and serving as a nighttime vigilante, after the death of his beloved Uncle Ben. Andrew Garfield’s “Spider-Man” struggles with the devastating loss of his partner, Gwen Stacy, leaving him unsure whether he should continue being Spider-Man. Miles Morales, the main character of “Into the Spider-Verse,” questions whether he is truly capable of wearing the mask. The plot delves into Peter Parker’s struggles surrounding his two best friends, forgetting every memory of their friendship and the life he once had. Even his hero identity faces even bigger challenges, as it seems that a sudden shift of a mysterious anomaly causes a glitch in the spider-like system. Bruce Banner, also known as the Hulk, and Frank Castle, The Punisher, reappear, leading viewers to seek whether Peter Parker is gaining more allies. Villains, such as Scorpion and unknown criminal threats, make an appearance, posing an even greater threat.
These new story arcs leave fans questioning what’s next for Peter Parker. Many Marvel fans are already forming bizarre theories or speculating is another piece in connecting Marvel’s multiverse.
Some of these theories propose Ned becoming the next Green Goblin, Peter Parker dying, and whether Mary Jane actually remembers Spider-Man. A bigger theory is suggesting “Stranger Things” Actress Sadie Sink, who is joining the cast as the beloved X-Men character, Phoenix.3 These ideas not only highlight the moving character development of Peter Parker, but also suggest that the Marvel Universe is planning even bigger phases to bring in new variants of characters. Even in a web of uncertainty, Peter Parker faces the unknown with bravery and a strong sense of resilience. Although reborn characters, comic revived villains, and turning points expand the web of his world, Parker continues to be the center of it all. Perhaps these over-the-top fan theories are a hint at the direction in the world of Marvel, as the universe continues to expand for its dedicated fans. With new challenges, evolving powers, and unanswered questions, “Spider-Man’s” web is far from being spun.
