Ventura got a taste of the next big thing in R&B and pop on Oct. 25, as emerging artist Frayne Vibez hit the stage at Ventura Music Hall. Performing as part of Lupe Fiasco’s Samurai tour, Vibez brought his signature blend of pop, hip-hop and indie rock, captivating a packed audience with his infectious energy and genre-blurring sound. As a recent signee to Hidden Beach Records, Vibez’s performance made it clear why his fan base is growing rapidly.
The night featured an all-star lineup with hip-hop legend Fiasco headlining and support from artists Billy Bllue, TDK and Vibez himself. The CI View was on hand to experience the show and had the chance to catch up with Vibez for an exclusive interview about his career, inspirations and future plans.
From Loyola Chicago to the Spotlight
Having just graduated from Loyola Chicago, Vibez is already carving out a name for himself in the music industry. “Success to me is doing exactly what I want to do, which is just making really good music that helps people.” Vibez shares that his vision of success goes beyond fame or recognition—it is rooted in the desire to craft music that resonates with listeners and brings them comfort or inspiration. “Music has always been, like, a feeling for me. It’s been an escape. It’s been therapy for me. So whenever I hear a track or whenever I’m thinking of something in my head, it’s all just energy and feeling.” His words reflect how music has been an essential part of his life, serving as both an emotional escape and a form of therapy. Vibez conveys that every track he hears or thought he experiences is infused with energy and feeling, capturing the depth of his connection to music. This connection is so important to his identity that it is reflected in his name, “Vibe.”

A New Universe for Fans: Good Vibez Only
Vibez’s vision for his music extends beyond the stage, into what he calls the “Good Vibez Universe,” an immersive world and space for listeners to find a sense of belonging. “The whole point of Good Vibez Universe right is to create just this atmosphere and this ecosystem of people that are just being kind and being themselves.” This inclusivity was felt throughout his performance as his music invited the audience to leave their worries at the door and lose themselves in the music and good energy.
A Genre-Blending Sound: “It’s About Feeling and Authenticity”
Vibez’s music stands out for its effortless fusion of pop, hip-hop and indie rock—a combination that has become his signature. Reflecting on the challenges of blending genres, Vibez said “I really just go by the feeling and how I feel about the track and the emotions I’m getting, the story I wanna pull from that. And that’s really what leads into making the song for me.” This authentic approach resonated with the Ventura crowd, who were visibly drawn to Vibez’s unfiltered and relatable style.
From Personal Struggles to Creative Triumphs
One of the highlights of Vibez’s set was his latest single, Take It Easy, a song that speaks to themes of self-acceptance, resilience and finding peace amidst life’s chaos. The artist explained that the track is rooted in his high school years where he felt out of place but found music his escape. “And the status quo, the staying on top of who’s popular or getting invited to that, get together at that party… I didn’t want any part of it. So the whole song, the whole theme would take it easy. It’s just like not taking any part of that negativity, the status quo, all of the negative.” Vibez words reflect a personal journey of navigating isolation and choosing to rise above the pressures of societal expectations, using music as a powerful escape and a way to connect with people who may feel the same.
Touring with Lupe Fiasco: A Surreal Moment
Sharing the stage with a hip-hop icon like Lupe Fiasco has been a dream come true for Vibez. The tour has taken him to major venues across the country, from Denver to New York, giving him the chance to showcase his talent to new audiences. “Success to me is doing exactly what I want to do, which is just making really good music that helps people,” said Vibez. The Ventura crowd was treated to a stellar lineup, with Billy Bllue and TDK warming up the stage before Vibez and Fiasco delivered unforgettable sets. Speaking about a standout moment from the tour, Vibez recalled going to Buc-ee’s in Denver, “They actually had an entire Colorado Jersey with Buc-ee’s on it. So I came out in that, representing Colorado. And it was so awesome…. I could just hear people while I was performing.” That moment, hearing the audience’s excitement and their response to the performance made him realize how far he has come.
What’s Next for Frayne Vibez?
Following a successful summer performing at festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, Vibez is already looking to the future. He is working on an EP that promises to deliver even more of the genre-bending and heartfelt music fans have come to love. In the meantime, fans can also look forward to more live performances as Vibez continues his tour with Fiasco, hitting major cities across the United States. With a growing fan base and an authentic, feel-good sound, Vibez is poised to make an even bigger impact in the music world.
