On Jan. 17, the grand opening of Vons upgraded its former location at 940 Arneill Road in Camarillo. The store is now located across the parking lot to a spacious, modern, 63,000-square-foot building within the same shopping center. The grand opening featured ribbon-cutting festivities and marked a significant milestone for the community. As part of the celebration, The Vons Foundation announced plans to distribute $200,000 in grants to benefit a dozen local schools and nonprofit organizations.
The new store includes all the familiar departments shoppers know and love — a full-service butcher, bakery and a deli — while also introducing convenient modern services. Among these additions is an online ordering system that allows customers to place their grocery orders online and have an associate load their purchases directly into their vehicle, ensuring a hassle-free shopping experience.
A thoughtful addition includes designed sitting areas that enhance the shopping experience, providing a relaxing space for customers to unwind. One standout feature is a dedicated child area, designed with families in mind. This cozy corner offers a comfortable and safe environment for children to play or relax while parents shop nearby. These sitting areas allow shoppers to take a break and fully enjoy their time at Vons.
Central Plaza, the shopping center located on Arneill Road, has undergone reconstructing over the past two years. The new Vons supermarket now occupies the site of the former Kmart, which closed in 2019. The outdated building was demolished in 2023 to make way for the modern 63,000-square-foot store, which brings an upgraded shopping experience to the area.
Apart from the newly constructed Vons supermarket, the Vons Fuel Mart has opened in the heart of Central Plaza. This addition makes the plaza a true one-stop destination, offering both shopping and fueling convenience for busy students and residents. Whether you are commuting to campus or running errands, the fuel station provides an effortless way to top off your tank while taking advantage of the nearby grocery goods.
Adding to the excitement, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is also undergoing construction but is open to the public. The coffee shop is a go-to spot for CI students and locals, offering a welcoming space to enjoy. With its cozy seating and inviting atmosphere, it is the perfect place to study, catch up with friends or simply relax after a day of errands. These exciting additions cement Central Plaza’s position as a vibrant hub for the Camarillo community.
