Oct. 1 is the perfect day to get into the spookiness of Spirit Halloween now located in Camarillo! Known for offering creative costumes, the store kicks off the Halloween season with many options to choose from. For CI students, Spirit Halloween offers an exciting way to prepare for all the seasonal events happening on and around campus (hint: Homecoming!) Spirit Halloween is packed with the latest costume trends and unique decorations that can help CI students stand out on campus for the season!
We spoke with Amanda Balderrama and Dreamer Wilson, two enthusiastic Spirit Halloween employees, who shared their thoughts on trends of the year and the best parts of working at the store. “I like kind of seeing where everyone’s direction is for Halloween. I really like if someone’s leaning towards a certain character or costume and they don’t know how to execute it, I like assisting. Oh, hey, you can do this, and you can also do this, and here is what we have. We have a hat that could also work for that. That’s really fun. And also, just being around so many novelty items, that’s just fun for me. The classics,” said Wilson. With CI students often getting creative with their costumes, Spirit Halloween employees like Balderrama and Wilson are ready to help turn those costume ideas into reality.
When asked about the most sought-after costume, Wilson was quick to mention Deadpool & Wolverine. “The movie was very sick, so I cannot blame them,” said Wilson. “We have a waiting list for it. So, anytime we get some in, we have to go through and make calls.” For CI students, grabbing these trending costumes early could make all the difference when it comes to Halloween night. Whether you’re attending a themed event from ASI or hitting a costume party with friends, securing one of these hot picks ensures you are dressed to impress!
Both employees shared their own Halloween costume ideas for this year. “I’m undecided. Probably Lydia from Beetlejuice,” Balderrama admitted. Wilson added, “My boyfriend and I are going to be Victor and Emily from Corpse Bride. I’m going to be full-on blue.” For CI students, these ideas may inspire similar Halloween costumes for any themed events!
As the Halloween season gets underway, Balderrama and Wilson had one final message for those celebrating. “You’re never too old to dress up and have fun,” Wilson assured. “I mean it’s the season. Just have fun with it and don’t put down anyone who wants to kind of celebrate in it and be who they want to be.” Balderrama echoed the sentiment, adding, “Don’t be afraid to be who you want to be. It’s the one time of year to be anything you want. You’re never too old to trick or treat.”
