By Miriam Packard

As students navigate their college experiences, one aspect that shines brightly is the array of opportunities found within the diverse clubs and organizations at Channel Islands (CI). Russell Winans, the Coordinator of Student Organizations & Involvement at Associated Students Inc., sheds light on the myriad of clubs and organizations available at CI. “With over 70 student-led clubs and organizations covering a spectrum of interests—ranging from cultural to academic, community service to sports—there’s something for everyone,” he shared.

Joining a club is not just about finding a group of like-minded individuals; it is a strategic move towards ones future. As Winans notes, engagement in clubs serves as a robust networking strategy, fostering connections that can potentially shape future careers. it is not just about building a resume; it is about building skills and relationships that can propel students toward their aspirations. Clubs are the threads in the rich fabric of campus life, contributing to the tapestry that is the CI community. These organizations do not just exist; they thrive, actively enriching the campus by organizing events, programs, and activities that breathe life into its educational mission. “Engaging with cubs and organizations on campus is a great networking strategy that can help students work towards future careers,” Winans explains. “Joining a club or organization can enhance professional development, build leadership skills and create opportunities for students to meet faculty, advisors other students with common interests.”

For students looking to dip their toes into the sea of clubs offered, CI Sync serves as the online hub guiding them through this journey. CI Sync, accessible through the myCI account, is the digital nexus where students can explore and join clubs, peruse event calendars, and immerse themselves in the pulse of campus life. This is also where events and meetings are listed. With over a hundred events and meetings already penciled into the CI Sync Events Calendar, the future is ablaze with opportunities for connection, growth, and exploration. By following @CI_StudentOrgs on Instagram, students can stay tuned to the latest happenings and dive headfirst into the vibrant tapestry of campus life.

Do not see a club you would be interested in? The prospect of starting a new club is not hard, just follow the process. Winans encourages aspiring student leaders to take the plunge, assuring them that with determination and a dash of initiative, they can bring their visions to life. “New clubs get started all the time!” Winans says, “Any CI student with a particular interest can seek to create a new student organization. Grab some classmates and friends then reach out to our office and we will guide you through the process.”

To all the students pondering whether to join a club or take that leap into starting one—remember, the journey of college is not just about academics; it’s about the communities we build, the connections we make, and the memories we create. In the kaleidoscope of college experiences, clubs and organizations stand as beacons of camaraderie and growth, inviting us to step out of our comfort zones and into the vibrant world of campus life.
