Still haven’t gotten your parking permit yet? Don’t know where to go? Don’t worry, I got you. Let me give you a little insight as to what, where and how you can get a parking permit.
First off, the locations where the parking lots are for non-resident/commuter students are scattered around campus. These are designated as “A” Lots. The A3 Lot, which is the largest “A” Lot on campus, is located on University Drive, right by North Field, where there are two soccer fields and a baseball field. The parking there consists of a larger area on cement, and another on the rocky road.
As for the resident parking, there are three parking lots for housing students: SH1, SH2 and SH-UG. Please note: Student Housing parking permits are not guaranteed for all housing students that bring a vehicle on campus. Parking in the Student Housing lots is determined on a first come, first served basis. Student Housing permits are not valid in “A” Lots or restricted, maintenance or visitor designated parking.
The cost for a vehicle parking permit is $195 per semester, and $34 for a motorcycle parking permit per semester. When paying online you may use a credit card or e-check. To pay with cash or check visit Placer Hall.
Some things to keep in mind about parking on campus are:
- Student housing and commuter students pay the same fee.
- All vehicles parked on campus must have a valid campus parking pass.
- No grace period to park on campus without a parking permit.
For those students who don’t have a car but need transportation, there are options for you, too! There are four transportation alternatives to consider: Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) intercity bus, Zipcar, the Camarillo Trolley and Ride Match.
- Consider taking VCTC intercity bus from campus to Camarillo or Oxnard. A valid CSU Channel Islands bus pass is accepted on all VCTC routes, Gold Coast Transit, CAT, Thousand Oaks Transit and Simi Valley Transit.
- The Zipcar is a car rental program and a great alternative for resident students (age 18 or older) with a valid driver’s license. Zipcars located on campus may be rented by the hour or day. Rates start at $7.50 per hour, or $69 a day, and includes fuel, insurance, maintenance, roadside assistance, 180 miles per day and reserved parking.
- Another alternative is the Camarillo Trolley Service. It provides quick and reliable access to the city’s major business hubs including the Premium Outlets, the Target Center and Old Town. The trolley service is free for everyone and can be used in conjunction with the VISTA bus which arrives and departs from the Metrolink Station.
- Ride matching is available to students, faculty and staff and encourages carpools to and from campus. When completing the permit application, each member of the carpool will provide their vehicle information which ties one permit number to each of the vehicles listed. Parking for carpoolers is made easier with the option to purchase one parking permit for two to four vehicles being used in the carpool each semester. (You are saving money!)
Or you also have the option to pay daily for a parking permit which only costs $6 per day! Daily parking permits are ONLY valid on the date of purchase and in any “A” Lot.
